Play Therapy is based upon the fact that play is the child's natural medium of self-expression. It is an opportunity which is given to the child to 'play out' feelings and problems just as, in certain types of adult therapy, an individual 'talks out' difficulties       Virginia Axline

Play and Creative Arts Therapy for Children aged 4-13:

Play and Creative Arts Therapy helps children and young people when they are struggling with difficult emotions and feelings.

Evidence shows that this kind of therapy can help children to heal when they have a lot of muddled feelings, as they use their natural ability to play with no pressure to talk about how they feel.

This approach is proven to embed lifelong changes for children struggling with symptoms such as stress and anxiety, low confidence and mood, anger and frustration, friendship difficulties and bullying, poor concentration, depression and sadness, and fears and phobias, as well as preventing mental health issues in later life

When a child comes to see me they do whatever they need to do at their own pace and without any judgement. This means I always accept the child exactly as they are and very rarely direct their play unless I feel they need me to. By coming to see me on the same day, at the same time each week, and being able to use the same toys and equipment means that a trusting and safe relationship grows where issues can begin to be worked through in the child's own time.

There will always be a wide range of toys, games and art equipment available such as sand and water, small world toys, clay, paint, musical instruments, puppets, construction toys, vehicles, action figures, and role play equipment to be freely chosen and used in any way needed
